For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
– Ephesians 2:10
The doctrine of predestination is ground zero for walking in holiness in this world. The electing grace of God affects not just the day we believed but also every day afterwards. Those days are to be filled with the good works God prepared beforehand for us to walk in. They are our great joy to fulfill in Christ.
Oftentimes the Christian life becomes somewhat mystical. We are always hearing and asking the question “what is God’s will for my life?” We think that if we ponder it hard it enough God will unveil our eyes and we will know what we’ve been put on this earth for.
But that is not God’s way. We don’t have to be mystics, spending hours, days, weeks, and years wondering what it is that God is calling us to do. He is calling us today to walk in a manner that pleases Him. Today is the day of fulfilling His workmanship by being more like Jesus and less like the world. Today is the day to put to death the deeds of the flesh and pursue the gifts of the Spirit. You don’t need a flash in the sky to tell you what God wants you to do.
And, we don’t need to feel like someone else found out the secret will of God and we got left out. No, He has planned for each of us to walk in ways that glorify Him. He planned this from eternity past. The works He planned for each of us are perfectly suited to us individually. He knows our every weakness, and He has crafted our works in light of them.
