Sabbath Rest Awaits Us

Sabbath Rest Awaits Us

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.

 – Hebrews 4:1

The rest of God awaits those who love Him. When God rested on the seventh day He set a pattern for us, and more than that, He gave us rest. He showed us that resting, like work, was part of the glory of God filling the earth.

Dominion is not just made by kingly power and prophetic words, but also by priestly rest in the finished work of God. A day set aside for our worship and celebration of all that God has done and will do. A day set aside here on earth to rest.

A day is coming when the work of this world will be finished – Christ will defeat death, and the new heavens and new earth will be opened for us. We will then enter into the heavenly rest that God began on the seventh day of creation. We will begin the seventh day of worship.

Until that day comes, we are to point people to the day when they will be rested. Our prophetic words point out the harm of sin and the difficulty of work in this world, tainted by sin. And, as royal priests, we lead people into the eternal rest of God.
